Ukrainian soldiers have rescued a defenseless puppy after finding him frightened and alone in a nearby field – and have now given him a prestigious role in their ranks
As Russia continues its reign of terror, a team of Ukrainian soldiers have shown the world a small moment of kindness within the conflict.
In a widely shared video by FreedomNewsTVUkrainian soldiers were seen tending to a puppy in the trenches after spotting him frightened and alone in an open field nearby.
The soldiers, who are stationed in Bahmut, Ukraine, affectionately named the pup Rambo, inspired by the action film series that shows a Vietnam veteran’s perspective behind enemy lines.
During the three-minute video, a soldier says: “He’s our protector, right Rambo? We felt sorry for him. It was freezing outside. We took him to our post and he stayed with us.”
The black and white pup has been assigned a role in the ranks — a security guard.

The soldier added: “He is our security service. That’s his job. He is our watchdog. He can hear very well when a stranger is around.”
A second soldier replies, “Rambo is doing a damn good job! Best doggo.”
Rambo isn’t the only dog to take up residence near the Ukrainian soldiers, as three others – Babai, Myha – which translates to fly – and Babai, Malish – which means baby – have made the trenches their new homes.
“The dogs act as guards, they help us. They react to sounds. Something a human doesn’t hear, the dogs become, they feel it,” added the soldier.
The soldier gave an insight into life in the Ukrainian trenches, explaining that everyone is well fed, including the dogs – but he also expressed how much he misses his family.
He added: “I miss my home, of course. I’ve been here a bit too long now.”
While most users shared their well wishes with the Ukrainian soldiers, others talked about how the dog brought them hope and happiness during such a difficult time.
One user said: “Life is better with a dog by your side. Godspeed Rambo.”
Another added: “I hope these soldiers and the dog are safe.”
A third said: “Amazing. Soldiers, you are our hero. Thank you and gold bless you all.”
It comes as thousands of Russians are fleeing their country, fearing Vladimir Putin will turn against his own people and close the borders so they cannot escape his tyranny.
Trains full of desperate people with heavy luggage from St. Petersburg pulled into Helsinki railway station this week.
The route is the only option available for people wishing to travel by rail between Russia and any EU country.
More and more are choosing this option as much of the West has closed its airspace to Russian planes and grounded flights.
Many men have also fled the country, fearing that Putin will begin drafting those not already fighting into his armed forces to join the illegal invasion of Ukraine.
