Tesco has doubled the price of its hygiene products after four years offering shoppers the cheapest prices on the market – and people online are furious about the increase

However, in’s most recent price check, it was confirmed that Tesco has doubled the price of what used to be their cheapest product, 10 packs of Tesco Essentials maxi towels, compared to before. this point last year.

Experts teamed up with expert comparison tool Sanitary Saver to check the information and found that Tesco’s product went from 2p per piece (23p a pack), to 4p per piece (42p a pack) package). also shows that the average “lifetime cost” of buying a Tesco Essentials maxi towel (pack of 10) has gone from £242 to £441.

The price hike has also caused a stir online, with Tesco shoppers furious with the decision as it would likely deal a blow to those already struggling with the rising cost of living.

One person wrote on Twitter : “It’s a shame, to be honest. Items like this should be free or much cheaper.”

While another said: “Tesco is contributing to the poverty of the period.”

The change means that Tesco is no longer the place to buy the cheapest cleaning products, but reveals that you can buy Asda’s super-conventional bath towels for 3p a towel (50p for pack 16).

Or, if you can use tampons, you can save even more by using Asda’s regular non-stick tampons for just 2p a tampon (70p for a pack of 32).

When asked about the price increase, Tesco told that the cost of producing maxi towels has increased significantly and that they have factored in these costs where possible.

A spokesperson said: “We know that the cost of purchasing essential products can be a real struggle for many, so we work hard with our suppliers to make this possible. for these products to be affordable.”
