Terrifying footage has apparently captured a suspected gunman entering a Texas elementary school before butchering 19 children and two teachers.
Robb Primary School in the town of Uvalde went into lockdown around 11.45am yesterday after gunshots were heard.
The attacker is said to have fired at the elementary school, which is believed to cater to children aged seven to 10, after exchanging gunfire with border guards and barricading himself inside the building.
Police later confirmed that 19 children and three adults were killed in the incident, after gunman Salvador Ramos, 18, believed to have shot and killed his own grandmother before heading to school.
A video posted to social media by resident Elsa G Ruiz on Tuesday shows a man similar in appearance to the suspect, dressed in dark clothing with medium-length hair, believed to be carrying a gun, walking into a building.
She wrote: “What my girls just sent me is on Robb’s. Prayers for the children and staff.”
Uvalde Police Department confirmed on Facebook that the attacker was in police custody just after 1pm.
It was later confirmed that he had been shot dead by officers.
Tuesday’s attack is the deadliest school shooting since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut nearly a decade ago, which killed 20 children and six adults.

Two heroic teachers, Imra Garcia, 46, and co-teacher, Eva Mireles, 44, gave their lives to protect the school children.
Several student victims who have lost their lives have also been named.
Among them are Xavier Lopez, 10, Makenna Elrod, 10, Eliahana ‘Elijah Cruz’ Torres, 10, Rogelio Torres, Uziyah Garcia, 8, Amerie Jo Garza and Neveah Bravo.
US President Joe Biden called for action on gun laws after the shooting, saying: “The idea that an 18-year-old boy can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons is just wrong. That’s what I hoped when I became president. I wouldn’t have to do that again.”
Before his killing spree, Salvador Ramos allegedly shot his grandmother and left her in hospital in critical condition. She has since died from her injuries.
Governor Greg Abbott previously said: “It is believed he left his vehicle and entered Robb Primary School in Uvalde with a handgun and may also have had a rifle, but that has not been confirmed according to my most recent report.
“He shot 14 students and killed a teacher in a horrific, incomprehensible manner.”
Robb Elementary School, which enrolls 600 students ages second through fourth grade, is located about 60 miles east of the Mexico border and about 80 miles west of San Antonio.
