Thanks to musician Paul Heaton, pub-goers across the UK and Ireland are enjoying free drinks

People are enjoying free drinks in pubs across the UK thanks to musician Paul Heaton celebrating his 60th birthday.
The former Housemartins and The Beautiful South artist announced on Saturday he would be putting money behind the bar in lieu of his planned 60-pub tour across the UK and Ireland.
“To celebrate my 60th birthday (on Monday 9th May) I originally planned to do another bike ride and visit and perform in 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland,” Heaton tweeted.

“However, due to the delays in recordings caused by the pandemic, I have had to put those plans on hold for the time being.
“Instead, I’ve decided that the second best way to celebrate this coming of age is to pick 60 pubs across the UK and Ireland and put a certain amount of money behind each bar.
“The hope is to bring people together on this day while also acknowledging that many people who have bought my records or shown me support over the years could use a little party as we come out of Covid and face potential financial problems.”
On Monday, Heaton retweeted images of a number of establishments with people raising glasses to him.
“Happy 60th birthday @PaulHeatonSolo thanks for the drink,” tweeted The Fall drummer Simon Wolstencroft.
