Inland Revenue officials have seized more than 1.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.
The consignment of illegal ‘Manchester’ branded cigarettes had an estimated retail value of €1.4 million, representing a potential loss to the Treasury of around €1.1.
The major seizure came on Wednesday as part of a routine port profiling and was found with the help of financial tracking dog Waffle.
This seizure is part of ongoing operations targeting the informal economy and the supply and sale of illicit tobacco products, Revenue said.
The investigations are ongoing.
