The latest edition of the ‘World’s 50 Best Bars’ has been announced, with the No. 1 pub in Barcelona – the first time it has been won by a bar outside of New York or London.
aradiso was named World’s Best Bar in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, a list sponsored by Perrier and presented last week in Catalonia, Spain.
Described as “tucked away behind a fridge in the back of a pastrami shop in Barcelona,” the jury said Paradiso offered “a masterful approach to the speakeasy, combining technique, precision and creativity with an unwavering sense of fun.”
“Owners Giacomo Giannotti and Margarita Sader and their team serve carefully crafted cocktails with an unwavering commitment to sustainability,” they added.
The 2022 ranking (a sister list to the well-known World’s 50 Best Restaurants) includes bars from 26 cities for the first time, with new additions from Florence, Lisbon and Naples.
But the list, now in its 14thth year there are no bars in Ireland again.
In 2011, Belfast’s Merchant’s Hotel made the cut (No. 17), while New York’s The Dead Rabbit, founded by Northern Irishmen Jack McGarry and Seán Muldoon, topped the list in 2016.
Last year the Irish Independent compiled a list of 10 brilliant hotel bars in Ireland as an example of what’s missing.

The World’s 50 Best Bars and World’s 50 Best Restaurants lists have been owned by William Reed, a UK-based digital, data and events company, since 2017.
First published in 2009, the list of bars is based on the voices of 650 beverage experts worldwide and “what is best is left to the judgment of these trusted and well-travelled experts,” it states.
“As this list is based on personal experience, it can never be definitive, but we believe it is an honorable survey of current tastes and a credible indicator of the best places to drink around the world,” the organizers say.
“This is the first time we’ve crowned a bar outside of New York or London as The World’s Best Bar, a testament to the achievements of Giacomo, Margarita and their team,” said Mark Sansom, content director of The World’s 50 Best bars.
“We are very pleased to once again be able to present the incredible diversity of the global industry.”
In terms of individual awards, Stockholm’s Röda Huset received the title of “Campari One To Watch” and Little Red Door in Paris received the “Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award”.
