Yellow sign

The standard yellow signs you see with food prices indicate a typical product will be on sale in the store for a while.

“That means it’s an ordinary item,” Matthew said.

Yellow sign ‘Seasonal items’

These items are usually only available for a short time.

“That means this product will only be on sale for about six months, give or take a few months,” says Matthew.

He also advises that there’s usually a lot of these “seasonal treats” in the baking section.

Red ‘Aldi found’ sign

These are the things to watch out for because even the staff doesn’t know how long this item will be on the shelves and how many will be left in stock, so if you see something you like, act fast.

Matthew says: “This is the number one question I get: ‘Are you going to get those things back?’ Short answer: ‘No.’

“There’s no way to order these items, no way to know how much we’ll get, or if we’ll get them. They’re just showing.”

The letter “D” on some signs

Some signs have a number followed by the letter D, and this indicates that the item has arrived at the store frozen.

“The number tells us how many days it will be good for once we defrost it,” says Matthew.

“So if you’re looking for the latest or the freshest, you can keep that in mind.”
