The beloved iPhone may be discontinued soon — and it may end up costing you

APPLE could drop its most budget-friendly device, the iPhone SE.

This means Apple fans will face a higher “entry point” cost to get their hands on a device from the latest lineup.

So far, Apple has only presented larger and more expensive smartphones such as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max

The iPhone SE has traditionally been the cheaper option.

And with consumers also grappling with rates of inflation, many won’t love not having a cheaper alternative.

Apple has yet to confirm the move.

But hawkish analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has made a name for himself for his accurate Apple predictions, believes the company could scrap the iPhone SE in its forthcoming lineup – which is expected to appear next year.

“The supply chain has received instructions from Apple indicating that the iPhone SE 4 2024 production and shipping schedules have been canceled rather than delayed,” Kuo wrote in a Medium post earlier this month.

The third-generation iPhone SE, launched in March, starts at $429 or £499 – compared to $599 or £649 for an iPhone 13.

The option means consumers won’t feel like they’ve missed out on the latest features, as they’re essentially packing all the power of an iPhone 13 into the shell of an iPhone 8.

But Apple may be responding to a trend picked up by market analysts.

Observers have found that more expensive iPhone models are more popular than their cheaper siblings.

There’s little incentive for Apple to keep rolling out cheaper phones like the iPhone SE when consumers are jumping for pricier models.

So far, Apple has only presented larger and more expensive smartphones such as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

A smaller, cheaper option has yet to be unveiled – if that ever will be the case.
