The best games of 2022 for each genre

THE sun is setting in 2022 and it was a blast for everyone who loves video games.
Whatever genre of game you like, this year had something for everyone, and we hope 2023 stacks.
If you’re not sure what to play during the holiday season, we’ve got a few options for you to consider.
Here are our favorite games of each genre released in 2022.
Best Action Game of 2022 – God of War Ragnarӧk
Second – Bayonetta 3
In terms of pure combat and over-the-top action, Bayonetta 3 definitely has the edge, but Ragnarӧk is a more rounded package.
It feels like two games in one. An epic story that embodies over 50 hours of glory that somehow feels like 10.

Ragnarӧk improves on every part of the original and has us more interested than ever.
Best RPG 2022 – Elden Ring
Second place – Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Despite coming from the same genre, there’s almost nothing similar about the two sprawling open worlds.
Perhaps the most ambitious RPG of all time, Elden Ring offers more accessible combat options than ever before.
The only thing the two have in common is that you will quickly lose a hundred hours of your life and not even be mad.
Best Strategy Game 2022 – Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Second place – triangle strategy
Triangle Strategy pays homage to classic 90’s turn-based RPGs, while Marvel’s Midnight Suns feels like a mix of traditional deck-building strategy and a Fire Emblem-style relationship system.
Both were developed by experts in the industry, but Midnight Suns has the advantage of having developed the best Marvel game, hands down.
It does justice to every hero by giving each unique ability a chance to shine with surprisingly complex gameplay.
Best Horror Game 2022 – Signalis
second – chaos; head Noah
Signalis starts out as a homage to classic survival horror games, but morphs into something far more special as the game progresses.
While we loved Chaos’ blend of fantasy and reality; Head, nothing has distorted our expectations like Signalis.
Named for the radio signals you have to tune into and interpret, there’s loads of clever puzzle design, an amazing story, and some nostalgic combat waiting for you if you take the plunge.
Best Indie Game of 2022 – Cult of the Lamb
Second – Stray
While we’ll always gush over any game that allows you to play as a cat, Cult of the Lamb just had an interesting complexity that we couldn’t forget.
Combining roguelite elements with a base-building game where you build a cult and sacrifice your followers to the old gods is a stroke of genius.
From laying out the beliefs of your doctrine to cleaning up feces, you are charged with preserving every aspect of your flock and we just couldn’t get enough.
Best Shooter 2022 – Metal: Hellsinger
Second – Splatoon 3
Splatoon 3 is a lot of fun, but it only improves on the classic Splatoon formula.
Metal: Hellsinger has given us something we have never seen before, a demon whose soul is filled with music and anger.
Sitting somewhere between Devil May Cry and Doom, Metal: Hellsinger challenges you to fight to the beat and features tracks from metal legends.
Best Remaster/Remake of 2022 – The Last of Us Part 1
Second Place – The Stanley Parabola Ultra Deluxe
This one was too close to name, as The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe adds more to each game than we’ve ever seen in a remake.
But The Last of Us is a better base, and the graphical upgrades give more weight to the emotional scenes.
You might not have to play it again, but if you haven’t revisited it since playing Part 2, it will bring a whole new perspective to the sequel.
