Times are tough in the UK with horrendous hikes on a wide range of essentials in the coming days.

This April, council tax rates will rise by up to 5% across the country, while the increase in the energy price cap will mean energy bills rise by up to 54% – a rise of up to £693 to a new high of £1,971 .

Meanwhile, Social Security rates rise 1.25% on April 6 despite the payment threshold being raised to £12,570.

Elsewhere, BT says tariffs for phone calls will rise by 9.3%, which will total around £3.50 a month, as water charges are expected to rise by 1.7%, adding an additional £7 a year .

Additionally, fuel costs remain high, with a liter of petrol coming in at 163.28p, according to the RAC. To make matters worse, inflation rates of 5.5% last year pushed up prices of all types of goods.

With these startling figures in mind, The Mirror takes a look at three of the UK supermarkets’ most popular weekly deals, which offer various essential items at great prices to help mitigate the April Cruel Day blues.
