The best horror movies airing in September and where to watch them

Fun fact: one of the greatest killer movies ever got a sequel (although it did get a gruesome 3D remake).

“My Bloody Valentine” is a Canadian horror film directed by George Mihalka and written by John Beaird. It came in 1981 at the height of the killer movie cycle, hoping to reap the success of holiday-focused horror films like John Carpenter’s “Halloween” and Sean’s “Friday the 13th” S. Cunningham, the latter of which was released the previous year and made it clear that serial killers can be profitable at the box office. But this one has a folk song of its own.

“My Bloody Valentine” naturally revolves around a lover’s holiday, but there is very little love revolving around. The film is set in the Canadian mining town of Valentine Bluffs which, despite its name, has not had a Valentine’s Day dance for twenty years, suspending the tradition after an accident that left many miners mines were killed and one survived unharmed. Legend has it that Harry Warden was the sole survivor of a methane explosion that could have been prevented if his supervisors hadn’t abandoned their assignment to attend the V Day festivities. That surveillance meets macabre endings, along with warnings of more deaths if the town holds a Valentine’s Day dance again, Warden becomes a legendary local boogeyman whose name appears when the killings begin again.

What sets this movie apart is its characters and its murder count. The main players are young, working-class friends with a believable and captivating camaraderie before the ax begins to swing, and the censorship surrounding the death scenes pierces through. extensive. If seeing a human heart in a heart-shaped candy box sounds thrilling, this is a movie worth watching. (Anya Stanley)
