The bizarre Facebook illusion is blowing everyone’s minds — but the truth is so simple once you’ve seen it

FACEBOOK users couldn’t believe their eyes when one person put up what appeared to be giant lamps for sale on Marketplace.

But take a closer look and you will see that all is not as it seems.

From the angle of the photo, the lamps look like two massive gray tower bells perched on the grass.

“This is one of the most compelling illusions I’ve seen in a while,” said one user.

“It took me long enough to figure it out.”

Another admitted: “I’m at work staring at this like an idiot – just found out.”

A third amazed viewer added: “I don’t think I would have ever gotten it, I just accepted they were huge.”

In reality, the lamps are usually small.

If you look up you will see that they are actually hanging from a wire.

Because they are photographed up close and with the angle of the garden grass the lamps just seem huge.

As some have noted, the rust and chips around the rim also add to the effect.

As we’ve seen with other recent optical illusions, the camera can be very deceptive.

For example, there is a stunning video that seems to show you Corgi is thrown out of a plane mid-air.

In a bizarre optical illusion shared by the dog’s owner on Instagram, the pup briefly appears to fly through the air after being dropped – but the truth is slightly different.
