Lancashire Police discovered a woman’s body in Bowland woods on Friday, which they have now confirmed belongs to mother-of-two Katie Kenyon, who was reported missing last week

Police have confirmed the body found in the woods is that of mother-of-two Katie Kenyon.

Lancashire Police said in a statement on Twitter this afternoon that a post-mortem found she died as a result of head injuries.

The statement said: “An Interior Ministry post-mortem was carried out yesterday and the cause of death was given as head injuries.

“Our thoughts remain with Katie’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. The family will continue to be supported by our specially trained officers.”

It comes hours after Katie’s heartbroken relatives paid an emotional tribute to the mother-of-two.

A social media post from her sister Jenny said, “Will love you forever and always my beautiful big sister.”

Another read: “I can’t thank everyone enough for the support you all have shown for the beautiful Katie and Katie’s beautiful children.”

The 33-year-old disappeared more than a week ago. But detectives said they found the body of a woman in Lancashire’s Bolton-by-Bowland woodland on Friday night – hours after a man appeared at a court hearing charged with her murder.

Police said the body was discovered after receiving new information.
