Actor Antony Starr, who plays evil superhero Homelander on Amazon show The Boys, has reportedly been arrested.
The 46-year-old star was arrested on Spain’s Costa Blanca over an alleged bar fight that left a man in four stitches.
Starr is believed to still be in police custody ahead of an expected court appearance later today.
The New Zealand-born actor was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old chef, who claimed to local press he was hit twice before having a glass smashed in his face.
Police have not yet commented on the incident, which is said to have happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Starr is set to shoot in Spain for British film director Guy Ritchie’s latest film, an action thriller starring Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal as a sergeant on his final tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The bar in Alicante where the incident happened has not yet been named.
The chief, posing as Bathuel Araujo, claimed to local press that his alleged attacker, Starr, was “very drunk” at the time, and when he claimed Starr was lashing out at a friend he was dating , he asked a friend of the actor to calm him down because he was a nuisance.
The Venezuelan-born chef claimed he responded by telling him to “f**k off” and trying to force him out of the pub in front of Starr punched him in the jaw and near his eye when he finally responded by pushing him back.
He told the respected local Informacion: “After he hit me I felt dizzy and then he hit me on his left eyebrow with the glass.”
He claimed the second riot continued in the street after the actor was allegedly thrown out of the pub by porters. Starr preened himself in the toilets, Bathuel claimed Starr threatened him in English, telling him: ‘You don’t know who you messed with, you don’t know who I am and what you’ve done .
“You made the mistake of your life and I will look for you. I want to kill you.”
Spanish National Police officers reportedly arrested the actor at the scene and took him to a nearby police station, where he spent the rest of the night.
A spokesman for Spain’s National Police in Alicante confirmed officers had arrested a 46-year-old man after an incident at a pub in the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Officials confirmed he would appear in court this morning.
The spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that a 46-year-old man was arrested after an incident at a pub in Alicante around 2.30am on March 2nd.
“He was held on suspicion of assault. He spent two nights in police cells and is due to appear in court later today.
“Another man sustained a cut near his left eyebrow that required four stitches. Only one arrest was made.”
Starr posted photos of him enjoying the sun earlier this week after flying to the Costa Blanca.
He posted a selfie photo wearing sunglasses at a marina, which he captioned “Boats.”
The Auckland-born actor also uploaded a snap from the same site showing the tapas he was eating, with a caption that read: “Here’s some food. I didn’t eat that. Unlike food I’ve eaten.
“Exciting stuff we’re doing here.”
Starr has garnered a global following with his superhero role in Amazon Prime’s original series The Boys, based on the comic book series of the same name.
He began his acting career in the early 1990s.
From 2013 to 2016, he played the role of an ex-convict who, after 15 years in prison, assumes the identity of Lucas Hood and becomes the new sheriff of Banshee in the television series Banshee, his first role on US television.
The new Guy Ritchie movie in which he stars is not yet titled. The cast includes Danish actor Dar Salim, who played Qotho in Game of Thrones.
