Bridgerton star Luke Thompson has revealed he rehearsed for never-before-seen sex scenes after a brawl on set with co-star Luke Newton.

Netflix star Nicola Coughlan detailed the confusion ahead of the second season’s premiere on the streaming platform this weekend.

She said that the show’s boss had mixed up two Lukes, who play the Bridgerton brothers Benedict and Colin, explaining that Luke Thompson had been offered a personal trainer for ‘intimate scenes’.

“We didn’t get all the scripts at once, so he said, ‘I wonder what that would be like?'” she said.

However, when filming for the show started, the showrunners found it confusing because the 33-year-old actor didn’t really have any compelling scenes to film – but they still allowed him to keep the trainer. personal.

This comes amid reports of significantly less sex in the show’s second season, as host Chris van Dusen defended the decision and said fans shouldn’t be overlooked.

“For us it was never about quantity,” he explains. “Our approach to intimacy on the show is really like season one.

“We use these intimate scenes to tell a story and push the story forward. We’ve never done sex scenes just for the sake of sex scenes, and I don’t think we will.

“It all serves a larger purpose and that is a different story this season. Those are different characters. We were with Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) most of the season and that was very different from Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page).

The showrunners realized the confusion because the 33-year-old actor didn’t really have any compelling scenes to film.

“And that’s really part of what draws me to a project like this, the ability to tell different characters’ close love stories from season to season.”

Lead actress Simone added: “It makes sense for these characters because they’re very protective of their families and they’re very honest with their obligations and responsibilities – so letting them break that would makes no sense for the characters.

“And like Chris said, they don’t have to do sex scenes or intimate scenes. They have a meaning behind them and I think it’s well earned when the fireworks go on. “

Co-star Jonathan echoed Simone, adding: “I think Kate and Anthony felt it was obvious how they felt naked in front of each other.

“I think it’s also a very interesting exploration of innate sexuality, and I think it bodes well for the next seasons, not just… about sex.

“That’s a huge part of it, but there’s so much more to be discovered and to be discovered in the future.”

The second season of Bridgerton will air on Netflix on March 25.
