The Brighton man has been charged with multiple stalking offenses in Lewes

A man has been convicted of multiple stalking offenses as police warn he may have other victims.

Ameer Tahir, of Kings Road in Brighton, pleaded guilty to 13 counts of stalking and one count of racially aggravated stalking after it was discovered that he had called victims and threatened them with “violent sexual acts”, including rape.

Tahir, 41, called his victims 24 hours a day and continued to do so after he was first arrested by police in December 2022. The offenses are believed to date back to November 2021.

Sussex Police Investigator Lucia Calandriello said: “Ameer Tahir terrorized his victims, many of whom had to change their daily routine, install surveillance cameras and live in fear of being watched or attacked.

“We received a large number of reports from victims in 2022 who gave very similar reports, with offenses going back to November 2021.

“I want to thank you all for your courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation through to conviction.”

Tahir is said to have repeatedly attacked his victims using an undisclosed number, often calling them by name.

A mobile phone found on Tahir’s property was analyzed and found to have called victims on a blocked number.

After the calls were traced and Tahir was initially arrested at his home, a second search of the property found another mobile phone, which he had continued to use to assault his victims while in detention.

Tahir also pleaded guilty to two counts of sending messages containing indecent or offensive messages, breaching the sex offender register and possession of a Class B drug at Lewes Crown Court.

After his guilty pleas on Monday January 16, he is due to be sentenced on Friday March 24.

Sussex Police have warned they believe Tahir may have targeted other victims who have not yet reported the incidents.

Anyone who has been in contact with Tahir and has received suspicious calls is asked to contact police online or on 101 quoting Operation Alder.
