The case of Art wins big at British Animation Awards

The hand-drawn animated short film Affairs Of The Art has won three British Animation Awards (BAA).

His biennial award, now in its 26th year, honors the best works in British animation across a variety of categories.

The Art’s Oscar-nominated work has won awards for Best Voice Performance, Best Short Film, and a Writer’s Award.

Created by filmmaking partners Joanna Quinn and Les Mills, Affairs Of The Art tells the story of a larger-than-life Welsh housewife Beryl who has artistic ambitions on a grand scale.

Welsh actress Menna Trussler, who voices Beryl, beat out Ricky Gervais and Ben Whishaw to win Best Voice Performance.

Actor and comedian Miles Jupp presented the 2022 ceremony at BFI Southbank in London.

BAA director Helen Brunsdon and producer Kieran Argo said: “We were amazed at the quality of this year’s British Animation Awards entrants and would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all of them. winners and nominees.

“After a particularly difficult couple of years, animation continues to be one of the most creative and productive industries in the UK.”

Also gaining momentum ahead of the Oscars later this month is Oscar-nominated Robin Robin, who won Best Original Song for a piece written by The Bookshop Band.

The Best Long Form category saw the win for Locksmith Animations feature debut, Ron was wrong.

Directed by Jean-Phillipe Vine, Sarah Smith, and Octavio E Rodriguez, the film follows a socially awkward high school student who befriends a defective cyborg.

The Best Factual award was secured by Save Ralph, an animated short featuring the voices of Hollywood stars such as Taika Waititi, Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron and Olivia Munn.

The film, written and directed by Spencer Susser, warns of the cruelty of animal testing and is produced for Humane Society International.

A variety of creators have also had success with Sky Kids, Channel 5’s Milkshake!, Netflix and Magic Light Pictures picking up two awards each.

The winners are Renee Zahn’s O Black Hotel! for Best Graduate Film and Miles Jezuita’s Suburbs for Best Graduate Film.

The Lamb Awards, introduced in 2022 and open to any young professional working in the animation and visual effects industries, have been nominated by Production Coordinator Hodan Abdi, who is nominated by Illuminated Films.
