The charity’s request to rescue an unrecognizable dog with no hair or body fat from the shelter

Canine charity Cavaliers in Need are desperate for help rehabilitating little Tom, who was found at a Turkish animal shelter so emaciated and malnourished it’s hard to believe he’s actually an easygoing King Charles Spaniel

He was given a second chance at life when a rescuer rescued him from an animal shelter.

Now little Tom needs the public’s help to regain his strength and travel overseas to find his forever family.

Dog charity Cavaliers in need is desperate for donations to help transport Tom from Turkey to Northern Ireland, Live in Belfast reports.

Little Tom was spotted at a Turkish shelter with a dangerously thin weight and no hair on his body.

Looking at pictures, it’s incredibly hard to believe that the emaciated dog is actually an easygoing King Charles Spaniel.

Charity workers hope that in a few months Tom will be strong enough to make the journey to safe foster care and be a normal spaniel again.

You wouldn’t tell Tom is a spaniel from his sick appearance

Cath Southwell, founder of the charity, said: “We are inundated at the moment with 93 dogs in foster care and 13 newborns being cared for by volunteers.

“In fact we have never had so many dogs in our care and the situation in Northern Ireland is getting worse with dogs being abandoned or abandoned.

“We rely heavily on our foster families, but we are physically at the limit. Despite the pressure, we have little Tom on our minds.

“If we think we have problems here, he is one of more than 1,000 dogs being cared for in Turkey at Emre’s Garden, an Emre Denir animal shelter.

“The problem of stray and abandoned dogs is overwhelming in Turkey and new rules introduced by the government mean native breeds are not allowed to leave the country.

“Dog shelters are filling up and dogs like Tom are being crushed, many ending up in killing shelters.

“Emre goes to the shelters and pulls out the dogs that he thinks he can help find new homes and Tom is one of them.

“We don’t know anything about his history apart from the fact that he was found at an animal shelter and probably taken there after being found on the street.

“He was very thin and required intensive care and now he is safe with a vet where he is on an IV for food and fluids and our plan is to help him get well again and get him to Northern Ireland .

“He needs to get a lot stronger before he can travel. But he will be placed here with a foster family and then we will find him a family who can adopt him.

“We think he’s about four or five years old and we want to try and give him a good few years and let him know love.

“So we’re really keen to help him and get him home and we’re asking people to help in any way we can.

“Our funds have been running low lately due to some very expensive cardiac and orthopedic surgeries and treatments or anything someone can spare to help us save them.

“Anything left over is used to help other dogs, nothing goes to waste. The need is great at home and abroad and we are doing our best.

“We just hope that little Tom will gain enough strength very soon to start his life over and know what it feels like to be loved, valued and held safe in someone’s arms.”
