The Chase: Contestants Beaten by Shaun Wallace

Chase fans dismissed Monday’s final as an “incident” as Shaun Wallace beat a team of three remaining contestants to claim a staggering £27,000 jackpot.

The remaining contestants Kyle, 31, Laura, 23, Mark, 50, faced off against the Dark Terminator after teammate Eileen, 64, failed to make it to the final round.

The trio amassed a total of 21 correct questions to bring home their £27,000 cash prize, but were then caught by 61-year-old Chaser with seconds left after an intense round of matches when Shaun got the answer right. 17 consecutive questions.

Host Bradley Walsh was pleased with the team at the end of the show, saying: “Started with four seconds left. I have to take away £27,000 and tell you you’ve been caught and The Chase is over. ”

Shaun also congratulated them on their efforts, but was not entirely magnanimous in the victory, saying: “They played very, very well, but I was excellent there.”

Bradley replied: “17 when bounced. I have to say it’s some performance.

“It’s really a strategy game and Eileen’s participation is a big part of it. They should tell her to go low. They would all take the money home, but they didn’t. “

But when the show ended, some viewers of The Chase took to Twitter to label Chaser Shaun’s questions “easy” and call the show a “fix”.

One said: “Absolutely fix how easy the questions are for him” as another wrote: “They put Shaun the ‘Junior Chase’ questions!”

A third fan said: “Possibly the hardest set of questions ever asked!!! I got 20 myself.

Another posted: “How easy are these questions?” as another wrote: “Shaun gets the questions easy!”

One fan added: “It’s easy to compare those questions,” but not everyone agrees with one fan who wrote: “Before anyone claims a ‘fix’ – we can remember that the group’s last question was about antihistamines against histamine.”

Other ITV viewers congratulated Shaun on his impressive performance, with one saying: “Crikey Shaun is on fire”, another added: “21 must be a chase record for a race record.” Shaun.”

This comes as Beat The Chasers has welcomed a new Chaser to the show in the form of Issa ‘The Supernerd’ Schultz – as Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty was forced to leave the series.

The 38-year-old Brainbox was a main chaser on the Australian version of The Chase and UK audiences will now know him as he joins the main cast of Beat The Chasers.

The Aussie is an eight-time Australian Quiz Championship winner and has even won major prizes on other shows including The Rich List and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Issa was welcomed to the panel by fellow Chasers Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis and Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace .

Shaun also congratulated them for their efforts, but not entirely heroic in their victory

Shaun took to social media to congratulate Issa on his new role, writing: “Super Nerd is amazing! Issa is happy to work with you again. I hope that happens sooner rather than later.”

Issa replied: “It is wonderful to sit beside you, sir! Your knowledge is sensational and you make me feel at home. Looking forward to the next one.”

Anne herself took to social media to explain that she would be saddened to be absent from the series, as she has contracted Covid-19.

She wrote: “The amazing Issa will be a stepping stone for me and I can’t wait to see the series when it airs later this year. I feel fine, but I’m still optimistic! (with all due respect).”
