Anne Hegerty has secured her job in The Chase after “fighting the vandals”.

The ITV quiz star has been a regular member of the game show since 2010, just a year after its debut on ITV, hosted by Bradley Walsh. ITV boss Sue Allison has revealed how The Governess managed to finish her long run on the show, as she opened up about the contents of the letter Anne sent to introduce herself for the role. .

Speaking on the TV Show and Tell podcast, she said: “For this series, I really wanted the third chaser to be a woman, a strong woman who can hold herself and can complete it. be yourself. It was quite a difficult task. We saw quite a few people.

“There are really good puzzles on the circuit, that’s the most important thing first of all. The people we meet are usually great puzzle people but they’re a bit too cool.”

Sue describes the letter as showing how perfect Anne would be for the show.

“When we got a letter from Anne, she wrote to the group and said something like she ‘realizes what character you need to be’ because she’s seen the pilot series” , she added.

“And she realizes that you need to be pretty tough, and she’s fired a few vandals. I remember getting this letter and thinking, ‘Come on, be as good as you sound,’ and she was like that.”

The bosses were most interested in how they could turn Anne into a Pursuit with her outfit choices.

She added: “I think the challenge for Anne is how do we get the look? Because aside from her style The Chase, she wears these gorgeous, floating floral outfits, which is the thing. This is obviously completely wrong for a Chaser.

“So I remember the day our wardrobe designer took her to the stores to find something. Then this shot back to where she looked like Mrs. Trunchball, and it was like ‘Yes, that’s one.’ She was a genius from the start.”

Of Anne’s incredible success on the show, Sue explained, “She just hit it. She’s really a brilliant actress and she delivers those lines perfectly when she comes out. . Her comic timing is absolutely right.”
