FUEL is still costing UK drivers a lot of money, although prices have fallen in recent weeks.
But have you ever wondered how much of the money you spend at the pumps goes to the gas station?
Given the prices we pay you’d assume it would be a fortune, but it might not be quite as much as you think.
According to the RAC, the amount going to the gas station is just a penny, with diesel proving to be even less profitable than petrol.
For every liter of petrol, which currently costs an average of 161.93p, the petrol station can calculate 11.74p. Meanwhile, a whopping 79.99p or 49% is tax.
It’s even worse with diesel. The average price for a liter is currently £175.89 and petrol costs 7.83p. 47% or 82.27p is tax.
According to Confused.com, the cheapest petrol can be found on the Isle of Mann at 145.5p per litre. East Central London, Belfast, Lincoln and Watford are not far behind.
The most expensive petrol is in Luton (166.5p), West London, Durham, Worcester and Twickenham.
East Central London has the cheapest diesel at 162.9p, with the Isle of Mann, Belfast, Lincoln and Watford bringing up the rear.
You should avoid Lerwick, Luton, Dumfries, Bromley and Twickenham in your diesel as it will cost you 184.7p per liter.

Although fuel prices have fallen slightly in recent weeks, it still costs a lot of money to fill up the average car.
A small car like a Ford Fiesta with a 42-litre fuel tank now costs an average of £68.07 to fill up, while the same diesel-powered car costs £73.90.
Mid-size cars like the Ford Focus with a 57-litre tank cost £92.37 for petrol or £100.29 for diesel.
Large cars with 65 liter fuel tanks now cost an average of £105.34 for unleaded fuel or £114.37 for diesel.
Many of the most popular large SUVs have even larger tanks will cost drivers up to £140 to fill.
