Nintendo has postponed the coming Super Mario Bros. animated film next year, according to an announcement made today on twitter.

The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on December 21st.

While no reason was given for the delay, co-producer and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto apologized for the delay but promised the film will be “worth the wait.”

The film will now hit theaters on April 17, 2023 in North America and April 28, 2023 in Japan.

The animated film, which was being developed in conjunction with Illumination Entertainment, was announced back in 2018 after being rumored about for a while.

The film will star Jurrasic World and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chirs Pratt as the voice of Mario, Last Night in Sohos Anya Taylor-Joy will play Princess Peach, It’s Always Sunny’s Charlie Day will play Luigi, and Jack Black will lend his voice Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key will play Toad.

Seth Rogen takes on the role of Donkey Kong, SNL alumnus Fred Armisen plays Cranky Kong, actor and prolific voice artist Kevin Michael Richardson plays the role of Kamek, and stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco will voice Spike.
