A CLASSIC Ford Sierra narrowly missed an all-time record at auction.

The 1988 Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth is one of only 500 built and is highly prized by collectors.

The auction took place online with collect carsthe hammer eventually fell to a staggering £124,500.

The all time record for an RS500 is £127,000 so this car just missed out.

There was a frantic 58 bids for the fast Ford as people competed for this beautiful specimen.

This particular car has only 13,933 miles on the clock and is in a time warp condition.

It was the 5th owner before the sale who had owned and cherished it for 10 years to date.

The RS500 was a homologation special, meaning it was sold to the public in small numbers for Ford to race.

It’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces around 224 horsepower and drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

The car comes with its original owner’s manuals, a stamped service booklet, a file with maintenance invoices, an original sales brochure and an untouched original first aid kit housed in the rear shelf.

The buyer will also receive an additional set of four original alloy wheels fitted with period-correct tyres.

The ad reads: “An iconic homologation special for modern classics, this Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth is presented in a ‘time warped’ condition and boasts an impressive service history despite its very low mileage.

“Described by the seller as ‘driving like new’ and in truly impressive condition throughout, it would be a crowd puller at any auto show and a fun companion for spirited rides down its new owner’s favorite roads.”
