A 95-year-old has married his soulmate, who is 84, for the first time, describing the occasion as “like a new year”.
Julian Moyle and Valerie Williams were married at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, Cardiff and saw around 40 their friends and family present.
An opera singer performed that day – a nod to Mr Moyle’s operatic career – and the couple’s wedding cake was made by Let Them See Cake, a famous bakery just next to the venue.
Julian, originally from Australia, emigrated in 1954. From 1970 to 1982 he was a soloist with the Welsh National Opera. He met his now wife, who was born and raised in Cardiff, 23 years ago at church who had just celebrated their wedding. He proposed just a few months ago on February 4th.
Valerie said “I can’t believe it”, while Julian said it was “wonderful”. Valerie added that what they looked forward to the most throughout their married life was “just being together.” The couple will celebrate their honeymoon later in the year when they plan to travel to Julian’s homeland.
He added: “It’s like Janus who had a face on the front and another on the back of his head so he could see into the future and into the past. It’s like a new year, isn’t it? , in a way? So I really look forward to your camaraderie.”
Valerie said, “He keeps telling me she makes me laugh – I don’t know why,” and Julian added, “You don’t know how funny she can be.” She added that her husband is “a fine gentleman,” while Julian said, “Simpatico. She is so, so kind and giving. – loving and giving.”
“It’s going to be a postponed honeymoon to Australia where I’ll be showing Mrs. Moyle,” he said. When asked how he felt about finally saying goodbye to his bachelorhood, Julian joked, “I can’t remember any other marriages.”
