A pair that were once worth nearly £60,000 have debts have explained how they changed their lives and even paid off their mortgage.

Mum-of-two Cat Keenan, 31, from Newport, Wales, owed £20,000 payday loanbank loans and credit card debt.

Her partner Shaun Nyland, 30, was down another £37,000 – taking her total debt to £57,000.

But they have now transformed their finances after starting a business tick tock Page “as a joke” in late 2019, in addition to the 12-hour day.

The couple, who have son Leo, 4, together while Cat also has another son Tommy, 9, from a previous relationship, soon attracted millions of followers and likes.

Her tick tock The content consisted mostly of joke videos and “fact-parody” pages, and Cat and Shaun started making thousands of pounds from advertising, they said The sun.

However, when their online profiles took off, their relationship began to sour and Cat and Shaun temporarily broke up.

Cat had seen her work as a dog walker and cleaner disappear during lockdown, with her income falling from £1,000 to zero.

It meant the couple was spending what they described as “too much time together” and only spoke about making videos.

Shaun, who temporarily moved back in with his parents in April 2020, said: “Our TikToks were already going through a bad patch with followers dropping.

“Then we broke up and Cat just stopped posting. Their business went haywire while I was doing just fine in the background.”

As part of a romantic gesture to get Cat back and funded by the success of his TikTok business, Shaun surprised his ex on her birthday by paying off her mortgage on their four-bed house last October.

The couple then started filming together again, and Cat saw her TikTok take off, as did Shaun’s.

In total, the couple, who are now happily back together, have made £350,000 over the last 18 months.

Cat has been able to pay off her debts after her income has increased dramatically over the past six months – thanks to branding deals with brands including Nike, Smyths Toys and Universal Music.

Cat and Shaun have turned what started as a side hustle into a huge success.

While it can be tempting to quit your job to start your own business, you should only do so after you’ve tried and tested your business first.

You must be sure that you can make money before giving up a guaranteed income.
