Netflix’s Our Father Unmasks The Heinous Crimes Of Former Fertility Doctor, Donald Cline

Netflix has quickly become one of the most prolific producers of documentaries, serving up some truly compelling and authentic titles.

The streaming site’s latest documentary, released today, is no exception.

The real-life crime documentary Our Father has left viewers sick with the gripping and unsettling story of infertility doctor Donald Cline.

Cline gave birth to more than 50 children during the 1970s and 1980s by artificially inseminating his patients with his own sperm at his practice in Indianapolis, USA.

He was exposed for his heinous crimes by his biological daughter, Jacoba Ballard, the only child conceived through donor sperm.

The documentary is so compelling that it makes viewers question whether this is really a true story? Here’s everything you need to know.

Is our Father based on a true story?

It may be hard to believe but Netflix’s latest documentary, Our Father, is actually based on a true story.

The investigative film once delves into the true story of Donald Cline and the children he fathered by illegal insemination.

The documentary follows Jacoba Ballard, one of Cline’s first biological children, putting the story together.

Jacoba knew she had been conceived using a donor as a child, and in 2014 at the age of 33, she began searching for her half-siblings.

She signed up for an online forum for adopters and donated children, and it didn’t take long for her to meet another woman whose mother had also been treated by Cline.

After seeing the woman’s Facebook photos, Jacoba thought they might be related. This woman also knew of another woman whose mother had been treated by Cline and she had a sister, so all four women decided to do a home DNA test using 23andMe.

The DNA test results showed that not only were the women all half-sisters, but four pairs of half-sisters were already in the database, bringing the total number of half-siblings. up to 8 people.

DNA tests also showed nothing wrong with Cline’s story. He told patients that the donors were medical residents and that each donor was only used for three successful pregnancies.

But tests showed he used a donor at least eight times, and with half-brothers born between 1979 and 1986, that’s way too long to be a doctor. Boarding.

In 2016, Jacoba spoke to a local TV station about the number of children born using the same donor, but they have yet to be able to identify their father.

As their DNA investigation continued, one name kept popping up – Donald Cline.

Ballard and her six siblings arranged a meeting with Cline, where he admitted to using his own sperm but said the records were destroyed.

Recalling the moment she found out in the new documentary, Ballard said: “I was shocked,

“There are so many emotions, so many questions. He lied about a donor being used. Why did he do that? How long has he been doing it, and how many brothers and sisters do we have? ”

Cline is said to have fathered more than 50 children using her own sperm on patients, and that number is constantly growing. Speaking to the Guardian, Jacoba said: “We actually had a new brother that came out the day the trailer was cut.”

Where is Donald Cline now?

Donald Cline’s whereabouts are currently unknown because the disgraced former fertility doctor has not spoken since the scandal was revealed.

But Ballard says he is still enjoying his life, telling the Guardian: “He is active around his community.

“He went swimming to see me and things like that. There’s nothing to hide.

“That’s the thing, he still goes out and back. In his head, I don’t think he thought he did much wrong.”

Cline is now in his 80s, and a lot of emotionlessness took place before the DNA test became widely available, which is why he was able to ignore it for so long.

He worked as a fertility doctor until 2009 and in 2018 he re-licensed and was banned from practicing again following revelations about what he had done.

But there is no state law that actually criminalizes what he was doing, and this meant that Cline was only charged with obstruction of justice and fined $500.

However, in 2018, mothers and siblings successfully managed to pass a law in Indiana that makes illegal donor insemination illegal, but there is no federal law yet.
