The David Bowie-style Brionvega turntable is up for auction at RDS

Timeless

An original Brionvega RR126 turntable and speaker set is one of the goodies on offer at Timeless, the Irish antiques dealers show taking place at the RDS in Dublin from 23rd to 25th September.

The record player presented by Acquired was designed in Italy in 1966 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni.

It’s the same base model as David Bowie’s bespoke Brionvega turntable which sold at Sotheby’s in London in 2016 for a whopping £257,000.

Other standout pieces at Timeless include an 18th-century crescent-shaped side table designed by William Moore and manufactured in Dublin. Tables of the same design have previously sold for more than €300,000 for a pair.

This will be brought to the fair by McBain & Byrne. Yeats Country Antiques is showing a mahogany dresser (c. 1850) by Robert Strahan of Dublin.

You can make good money with old iron. An old metal street sign reading ‘Bóthar Neamhúdaraithe/ Unapproved Road’ fetched €3,600 on August 30th in a farm equipment and memorabilia sale at the MacSeasins Pub, Cornafean, Co Cavan.

“Crazy,” said Niall Mullen of Niall Mullen Antiques, who co-chaired the auction with auctioneer Aidan Foley.

A yellow Automobile Association sign for Crosshaven in English and Irish sold for €700.

As expected, valuable items also did well: a tractor seat stamped Hanlon Speedy Plow and manufactured by Carsons of Dublin, which sold for €4,200; a restored Massey Ferguson 35 fetched €5,200 while a set of old petrol pumps fetched €3,000 combined.
