The Day Before – What’s up with this highly anticipated survival MMO?

Have you heard of… The day before? It has appeared in our Indie MMO Spotlight multiple times and was listed as one of our most anticipated indie MMOs to come our way this year. As exciting as a zombie-themed post-apocalyptic survival MMO can be, there’s something else that’s been dead for the past few months, and that’s the announcement from the Fntastic development team.
For a game set to release sometime this June, there’s a lot we just don’t know about Fntastic’s upcoming survival MMO, published by Singaporean publisher MYTONA. According to the official TDB Discord, there will be or is supposed to be a “pre-launch beta”, however the team states that their publisher MYTONA has “so many employees” that they have apparently taken on the role of testers for the time being.
“We will have a pre-launch beta, but only for the lucky thousands. It’s great that our publishing house has so many employees!”
-The Day Before Discord FAQ question 10
The answers from the FAQ were reposts from an original interview with Gamingbolt’s Fntastic founders Ed Gotovtsev and Aisen Gotovtsev in March 2021, but it was only recently added to the Discord. Earlier this month, the chief moderator went to Discord’s FAQ section to calm fears that it was in fact the official Discord server.
What do we know about the game so far?
At the end of last year, The day before put together a mega event that showcased what players can expect from the zombie survival MMO. It featured some interesting locations, like a mall, a cabin, and the wilderness, with visuals that felt very similar to Ubisoft’s The corporate division Series. There were social hangouts and some exciting battles featured in the footage before the video transitioned to the June 21st release dateSt2022. Then, in early 2022, they released an impressive gameplay of the The day before in coordination with Nvidia to announce 4K RTX support, show it off and tease how it works. It’s been 3 months since their last video release and the game is only 2 months away. Questions are circling as to whether Fntastic can maintain its current release date.
These questions are probably a common occurrence since social media for The day before has gone completely dark. This also comes at a time when Fntastic’s official website is now going to a login page and asking for a password to continue. This is a marked departure from last month when their site was still up and running. In early April, the site was down because the main site account had passed its expiration date without renewal, as confirmed by Archive.org.
The chief moderator of the official The day before Discord, Wholf explained that the site is currently down for maintenance. There is currently no estimated date when the Ftastic site will be available again. It’s also important to note that Ftastic was founded in Russia back in 2015, which suggests that the possibility that some of their resources may be impacted by the ongoing war in the region, sanctions, or by several interconnected reasons that could explain why the team has gone dark over the past 3 months. According to LinkedIn and confirmed by the chief moderator of the official Discord, Fntastic’s headquarters have moved to Singapore, but they could not confirm whether there were still development resources in the region that could cause a possible delay in communication. Another reason could simply be that the team is mainly focused on getting the game going and doesn’t have time to focus on advertising at the moment.
While the official The day before Social media channels have gone quiet lately, that doesn’t mean that Fntastic has gone completely dark. The team started another game, support night, back in December 2021, and the The official Twitter account has been relatively active in recent months, with their latest post announcing a new hide and seek mode on April 19th. We have reached out to MYTONA and Fntastic through multiple channels and have not yet received any feedback on our request on this issue, although we have received feedback from the Official Discord’s chief moderator on some of the issues detailed earlier in this article. There is much speculation as to the exact reason The day before Team has gone dark and we will update this article if we receive further communications with the Fntastic team or MYTONA.
Hopefully we’ll hear more about what’s going on The day beforeand is it still on the way to celebrating their 21st birthday?St release date. While it’s entirely possible they’ll hit the mark, I wouldn’t be too surprised if we heard about a delay in the near future.
