The Deborah James family thanks the public for their support as they continue to raise funds for charity

Dame Deborah James, who is in delicate care at home, set up the Bowelbabe Foundation earlier this month and the initiative has raised more than £6 million for Cancer Research UK.

Deborah James ‘hugs the rain’ to fight cancer
Dame Deborah James’ family has thanked the public for their support as they continue to raise money for the charity.
Podcaster, 40, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016, founded Bowelbabe Foundation recently to raise money and awareness, when she was in hospice care.
The initiative – in partnership with Cancer Research UK – has raised more than £6m in the weeks since it was founded by Deborah, her family and the charity.
And in an Instagram update today, her family thanked her supporters for donating to the Bowelbabe Foundation, which funds activities and projects close to her heart.

They said: “Through donations, fundraising and partnerships, we are all continuing to raise an incredible amount of money to give Deborah more time.”
The family added in their recent statement on social media: “All proceeds will be distributed, with the support of [Cancer Research UK]to fund causes and projects. “
It includes funding clinical trials and research into personalized medicine that could lead to new treatments for cancer patients, as well as further raising awareness.

The statement stressed that potential projects as a result of such fundraising could include several projects in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).
The family added: “Thank you all so much for your continued support, and if you’ve made a donation, bought a book, t-shirt or commission, or held a bread sale, raise funds. or share Deborah’s story.”
They concluded the statement, shared earlier today on social media, by writing to her supporters: “You are all unbelievable, and we are all complete totally blown away by all of you.”

Deborah – known as ‘Bowel Babe’ – has been a prominent advocate of cancer awareness for many years, including through the You, Me and the Big C podcast.
She gave an update on her own condition earlier this month, announcing that she was in hospice care at home because her body “couldn’t take it any longer.”
The campaigner and podcast host said in a statement: “My intensive care service has been discontinued and I am now moved into hospice care at home, with my incredible family. me around me.”

Deborah added: “Right now for me, it’s all about taking it one day at a time, one step at a time, and being grateful for another dawn.” She thanked the fans for their continued support.
It was in that post that she announced the launch of the Bowelbabe Foundation, in partnership with Cancer Research UK. The fund has raised more than £6 million.
In recent weeks, she has also confirmed that her new book, How to Live When You Might Die, will be released in August and has received the Damehood Award for her campaign.
