The decomposed body of a newborn baby was found wrapped in a plastic bag outside the house

Police in South Africa have launched a murder investigation into the death of a newborn baby after the child was found wrapped in a plastic bag outside a house.

The decomposing body was found Thursday in the village of Ga-Mashabela in Masemola. Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe ordered an immediate investigation into the brutal murder of the newborn, the Review Observer reported.

According to Hadebe, a family in the village opened their front door on Thursday morning and found the plastic bag with the newborn baby inside. They immediately called the police.

Authorities arrived at the scene and began searching the surrounding areas for evidence of the child’s death.

Limpopo Police spokesman Lt. Col. Malesela Ledwaba said the newborn was a girl.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the newborn was choked to death before her body was placed in the bag. Authorities believe the child was just a day old.

“The child’s mother has not yet been identified and the circumstances of the murder are part of an ongoing police investigation,” said police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

Hadebe described the murder as appalling and disturbing.

“Those responsible for this barbaric act should be held accountable. We are asking the community to provide information about the child’s mother or the murder to expedite the investigation,” Hadebe said.

Anyone with information about the case has been asked to call Investigating Warrant Officer Frank Makola on 076 618 5947 or Captain Matipa Mokonyama on 082 040 3242 or the CID number 0860010111 or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp.

Last month a 31-year-old woman was arrested in Brazil for killing her two children because she was unable to care for them. The defendant, identified as Eliara Paz Nardes, kept the decomposing bodies on her bed for 15 days. She was charged with murder, concealment of the bodies and procedural fraud. The bodies of 9-year-old Alice Nardes de Oliveira and 3-year-old Joaquim Nardes Jardins were found on August 27. According to a police spokesman, the mother said, “The boy was killed by smothering with a pillow and later the girl was strangled with a scarf.” Police added that the accused had shown no sign of remorse over what happened.
