Heath & Her provides solutions to help UK businesses meet the challenges of menopause

Research conducted by menopause specialists Health & Her points to the devastating effects of menopause on workers and employers 10% of women leaving the workforce because of menopause and 1 out of 4 consider leaving. For those who remain, their quality of work and work experience is seriously compromised 15% of women say they have called in sick because of menopausal symptoms.

The impact of menopause on business is only just beginning to be fully understood, with research suggesting that perimenopause and menopause are costing UK businesses 14 million Working days per year, the equivalent of 1.88 billion pounds of lost productivity per year.

Research has also shown that women in the workplace struggle to perform at work due to the difficulty of perimenopause and menopause symptoms. Almost a quarter of the menopausal women surveyed admitted to making mistakes at work 6% had to skip work meetings to cope with the severity of their symptoms.

For some, it’s too much to keep working, research shows 370,000 Women in the UK between the ages of 50 and 64 have given up or considered leaving their careers because of the intensity of their symptoms. Another quarter had to reduce their working hours or completely change their work pattern.

After extensive research into what women wanted to help them through menopause in the workplace, Health & Her launched a personalized menopause support plan for employers. This plan allows employers to support their employees with expert advice, training and discounts on nutritional supplements and solutions – all things Women told Health & Her.

That Health & Her Employer Menopause Support Plan was developed by the leading British pioneers in women’s health. The holistic package offers clinical access to GPs specializing in menopause, expert advice and articles, executive and staff training, digital tools to track and manage menopausal symptoms, and GP-led webinars that engage both menopausal women and the working population Employees should inform and support with and manage them.

Health & Her co-founder Kate Bache said: “This support plan is a positive first step in creating workplaces that are more supportive of female employees with perimenopause or menopausal symptoms. As the Office of National Statistics suggests that women ages 50-64 are the fastest-growing economically active group, companies need to adapt and create an environment that sustains and nurtures this talented, experienced, and capable demographic—rather than risking it to lose her altogether.

“It’s important to remember that every menopause is unique – every woman is an individual who has an individual experience of menopause. Therefore, to support women going through perimenopause and menopause, companies must develop a culture and policy approach that both encourages women going through menopause in general and helps address their specific needs and demands.”
