“As a teenager Reg attended Fawcett Boys’ School on the grounds of Pelham Road in Brighton and he was always a strong supporter of Brighton Comprehensive Schools.

“At Dorothy Stringer we have benefited from Reg’s lifelong service to our school; He is a man of great integrity and humility who has supported students, staff and school leaders through the ups and downs of school life for the past five decades.

“His 46-year tenure at Dorothy Stringer included 13 years as Chairman of the Governors, and he has remained on the board as a knowledgeable participant ever since.

“Reg is the kindest and most considerate man whose performance of duty is something rare and special. That year he attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace after being invited in recognition of his outstanding public service.

“Reg has also always had a great passion for youth athletics in the city. Along with Mr Chris Carter, Reg was instrumental in organizing and supporting athletics meetings at Withdean Athletics Stadium which provided an opportunity for young people from the area to train and compete.

“He often combined this passion with a great feeling for photography. He has a great eye for capturing the energy and talent of young athletes and their coaches and has published many photos of competitors and winning teams in the local press.

“Dorothy Stringer also has an amazing archive of memorabilia of athletic achievements, incredible theatrical performances and other school events that he has photographed.

“Reg Hook was a devoted Governor and we want to honor his tireless dedication and lifelong support of our school. We are forever grateful.” The Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton thanks Governor Reg Hook
