Officers ordered him to stop driving – and asked him to move to the passenger seat so officers could drive him and his car home.

An eye exam the next day revealed the man’s eyesight was so bad that he couldn’t read the license plate from 20 meters away – and his license was confiscated. Mirror report.

Police Officer Sean Williams said: “It is disturbing to see this man behind the wheel of a car and we are grateful to everyone who called to let us know and it did not end with something much more serious.”

“We emphasize that you must not get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you are unfit to do so, and this includes meeting the DVLA standards for visibility while driving.

“We advise anyone with anxiety to have their eyes checked regularly to make sure they can read license plates from 20 metres, and also encourage family members to make sure a loved one is healthy enough to drive.”

It comes after a 86-year-old grandmother passed away when her white Nissan Pixo crashed near Inverness in November.

Her passenger, an 88-year-old man, also died in the incident.

The crash happened at the Munlochy intersection for B9161 and A9 on November 19.

Sergeant Neil MacDonald, of Police Scotland’s Road Policy Unit, said at the time: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have passed away.

“The family has requested that their privacy be respected at this time.”
