The eight things you need to know about the WORLD’s new largest cruise ship

The Royal Caribbean CRUISE line is all about breaking records.

With its newest venture, Wonder of the Seas, it has raised the bar for the second year in a row for the world’s largest cruise ship.

Royal Caribbean's newest venture, the Wonder of the Seas is 18 decks high, 1,188 feet long and capable of carrying 9,288 people

At an epic 18 DECKS high, the 1,188-foot liner is as wide as seven double-decker buses parked end-to-end and can carry 9,288 people.

She will debut in Europe this May, with eight distinctive ‘neighborhoods’ on board, including an exclusive new suites-only area on the top two decks.

AS MUCH YOU CAN EAT

Royal Oasis-class ships are known for their variety of dining options — but Wonder tops them all with more than two dozen different dining areas.

While the ever-popular Windjammer Marketplace has returned for all-you-can-eat buffet dining, there are also new specialty restaurants to try.

There’s a steakhouse, Chops Grille, Giovanni’s, and gourmet hotspot 150 Central Park—all of which sit proudly within the massive Central Park complex in the ship’s belly.

But the new Wonderland concept is the star of the show. Combining molecular gastronomy with a fairytale theme, the restaurant serves adventurous dishes from land and sea in a fabulous interactive setting.

Explore the menu by painting a picture and look out for Alice and the Mad Hatter to accompany you between courses as you sip creative Cheshire Cat-inspired cocktails.

If you prefer to keep it casual, Southern Restaurant The Mason Jar is perched high on the 15th deck and offers chicken and waffles and whiskey cocktails – with views of the ocean from the grandstand.

LET ME ENTERTAIN

The ship offers a great entertainment program.

Among the many goodies, the new all-female show inTENse highlights the state-of-the-art AquaTheatre – featuring the deepest pool ever created aboard a cruise ship.

The magical production sees professional acrobats leaping and falling from 55 meters above the water and synchronized swimmers all moving to a dramatic soundtrack.

Royal Caribbean superheroes, The Effectors, also return for their previously unreleased second installment, using drone technology to light up the main auditorium in a fabulous formation.

RIDE THE WAVES

If the endless ocean views aren’t enough for you, the newly designed pool deck brings together a number of new water features, including four main pools and ten smaller whirlpools.

The more adventurous will enjoy new water slides, a terrifying dive slide at the back of the ship and TWO surfing simulators.

This means cruise-goers can practice hanging without having to disembark.

The entire deck is designed for relaxation, with an array of lime and coconut cocktail bars dotted throughout.

And there’s an ice cream shop, Sprinkles, that serves soft-whip late into the night.

CHEERS

Why ask the bartender to serve you a cocktail when you can have it shaken, stirred and poured perfectly by a robot at Bionic Bar on the Promenade?

Or there’s the Rising Tide Bar — essentially a glorified elevator that allows passengers to enjoy a cocktail while slowly ascending and descending three decks.

New bar complex The Vue is one of two never-before-seen concepts, alongside the solarium at the front of the ship and overlooking the pool deck and open water.

And while Giovanni’s and Chops Grille boast the largest collections of Plonk, Cask and Flipper Pub is the place to be for home comforts – a British-style eatery serving a range of beers and spirits.

BEGIN YOUR ADVENTURE

New for children is the Wonder Playscape – an underwater playground with exciting climbing nets, puzzles and a touch-sensitive game.

And teens get their very own outdoor space, Social 180, complete with mocktail bar and chill-out areas.

But the thrill of the ship isn’t just for the little ones. Adults can tackle two climbing walls that rise more than 40 feet above the 15th-floor pool deck, as well as a giant zip line.

There’s also a game room, laser tag, mini-golf and a casino with slot machines that rival Las Vegas.

LET’S GO

If all the fun hasn’t exhausted you, Wonder of the Seas has one of the largest open-water gyms and a 600-meter running track that even pro athletes would envy for its endless sea views.

The track, which circumnavigates the ship and features both walking and running tracks, is surrounded by ping-pong tables and areas for quieter fitness classes.

For those who want to exercise less, there’s a spa with a nail salon, hair salon, 29 spacious massage rooms, a mud bath, and a thermal suite.

RETURN AND RELAX

With 2,867 state rooms on board, there is a wide range of accommodation to choose from.

But passengers after a blow-out voyage should book a Royal Class suite on the upper decks. This includes your own concierge and butler service.

Restaurants on the 17th and 18th deck offer exclusive dishes.

There is also a lounge area as well as an outdoor sun deck with a smaller, quieter private pool away from the hustle and bustle of the ship.

SHOPPING SPREE?

Of course, the world’s largest cruise ship needs a shopping promenade with boutiques that rivals the best malls in the world.

Tax-free designer goods are available once the ship is on the open sea.

The promenade brings together luxury items from around the world, ranging from handbags and clothing from Kate Spade and Michael Kors to high-end jewelry from Cartier to Bulgari and Hublot watches.
