The final season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK starts tonight

RUPAUL’S Drag Race UK will return to TV screens tonight with the show’s first ever trans woman contestant.

Dakota Schiffer will join 11 other candidates to be crowned Britain’s next drag superstar.

In the final season of the BBC show, drag queens will face a range of challenges that will test their skills and abilities as performers, from sewing and creating dresses to impersonating celebrities, singing and performing choreography.

Several celebrity judges were announced for the season, including This Morning’s Alison Hammond, Years and Years star Olly Alexander, Spice Girls member Mel B and actress Dame Joanna Lumley.

Dakota from Sussex aspires to be “Generation Z’s answer to Sharon Tate”.

The 22-year-old said: “My drag aesthetic is always pretty and fashion first.”

Dakota said growing up transgender in the county was difficult.

“Sussex isn’t the best place for a 6’1″ trans woman drag queen to grow up,” Dakota said.

“I’ve always stood out but felt invisible at the same time, but I think it definitely made me who I am today.”

Among the contestants she is up against is Pixie Polite, the third actress from Brighton to take part in the show.

Pixie, who has been doing drag for about eight years, is “tall, bold, and beautiful.”

“I’m pretty good at doing a little bit of everything,” Pixie said. “You have to be versatile – you can’t just be a one-trick pony.

“I am a much betrayed cow of the camp variety. I hope to stand out from the crowd in this competition.”

Pixie hopes to break the show’s ‘curse of Brighton’, with the two previous town contestants – Joe Black and Anubis – both being eliminated in the first week of their season.

After his elimination, Anubis claimed that the “curse of Brighton lives on”.

Debuting on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer at 9pm, the season will see the drag queens complete an Olympic-size photoshoot and serve up two looks on the catwalk.

Showbiz queen Dame Joanna Lumley will join Michelle Visage and Graham Norton on the judging panel to help RuPaul determine the winner of the first challenge and who should be the first queen eliminated from the competition. The final season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK starts tonight
