The first two contestants announced for the Christmas special of Universal Jump

DJ and host Rickie Haywood-Williams and podcaster Rosie Ramsey have been announced as the first two contestants for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

aywood-Williams will team up with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk as he looks to win the festival version of the BBC One programme.

He presented the breakfast show Kiss FM for 10 years before moving to the BBC, where he hosted Radio 1’s Live Lounge with Melvin Odoom and Charlie Hedges.

After the news was announced on Radio 1, he said: “I’ve been following Serious for years and always said I was too scared to do it.

“But here I am ready for it, sequins and all.”

Meanwhile, Ramsey will be teaming up with Neil Jones, following in the footsteps of her husband and podcast co-host, comedian Chris Ramsey, who competed in the 2019 series Serious.

When her involvement was revealed on BBC Morning Live, she told the programme: “I watched Chris do it in 2019. I’m so jealous.

“So as soon as I was asked to do this, I just grabbed it with both hands.”

She continued: “(Chris) gave me advice and he understood that it was difficult, but he couldn’t dance at all at the start and he did very well.”

She added: “(The training) was really tough. I have a lot more respect for anyone who has been on the show over the years. It’s a lot. That’s a lot of cardio, let’s put it that way.

Ramsey said she danced in a vaudeville band at holiday parks and was a Bluecoat at Pontins resorts.

She added: “I think, I can move my legs – let’s put it that way.”

Pop singer Anne-Marie won last year’s Christmas special after she wowed the judges with her father-in-law performance of Gwen Stefani’s version of Feliz Navidad.

– The Serious Dance Christmas Special will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.
