The long-running reality singing competition originally aired in 2004 – however, it stopped airing in 2018, while a badly-reviewed spin-off titled The X Factor: The Band aired in 2019.

Last year, reports suggested that the program was malfunctioning after years of declining ratings and after the Covid-19 pandemic prevented the program from being implemented in 2020.

London-based singer-songwriter Lottie Jade posted details on her TikTok account, describing her 2016 audition process for Simon Cowell’s singing competition.

She wrote in the caption: “Just to clear things up” and spoke directly in front of the camera.

Lottie opened up by telling fans: “So I’ve seen a lot around how real BGT is so fake, so I’ll tell you guys my story when I auditioned for The X Factor in 2016.”

She continued: “I was actually recruited at the time, by Sony music in 2016 and Sony made me audition in a girl group for the X Factor – even before the X Factor came out, if that makes sense.”

Lottie claimed she was called back by Sony to audition for a solo, and she told how she “got off to a great start compared to everyone else”.

She said she was given four songs to sing.

“Then they told me what they wanted me to wear. I went to the audition in the clothes I thought I would wear if I were on TV – but they told me it wasn’t what they were looking for.

“They gave me suggestions on what to wear to the audition.”

Lottie has told her TikTok followers that she is unable to make time for the various stages of the X Factor process and so has dropped out of the show.

She concluded, “So basically what I’m trying to tell you is that every show you watch that’s related to music or involves artists is fake.

“Everything was pre-prepared, everyone knew who was going to win. None of that was really real, so I just thought I’d make that clear.”

This comes after it was reported that Simon Cowell was planning a resuscitation for The X Factor – a year after ITV announced they had no intention of bringing the show back to the screen.
