The national executive of the largest public sector union has voted “overwhelmingly” to recommend its members accept the public service pay package proposed by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) earlier this week.

The package would be worth 8 pieces for an employee earning €25,000 a year and 7 pieces for a person earning €37,500 a year. Salary proposals would increase by 3 percent effective February 2, 2022; 2 pieces from March 1, 2023; and 1.5 pieces or €750 (whichever is greater) from 1 October 2023. This is in addition to 1 piece or €500 due in early October 2022.

Forsa general secretary Kevin Callinan said his manager accepted the deal was the “best that can be achieved through negotiations at this time”.

“We will now explain this package to Fórsa members, who will decide the union’s position when a final decision is made next month. The Fórsa Executive examined the details of the package and engaged in a constructive debate that strongly acknowledged the financial realities facing working people across the economy and their fears about the future,” he said.

“While neither side achieved everything they wanted in the negotiations, this package represents a significant improvement in Building Momentum’s wage terms. And it’s worth more to those who need it most.”

“Today’s discussion by the elected leadership of Fórsa underpinned the fact that workers expect the government to deliver on its promise to boost wage measures through robust cost-of-living support in the upcoming budget and through the Labour-Employer Economic Forum (LEEF) process. to complete.
