An outraged mum is divided after saying she was left with a huge bill when her family dropped holiday plans she had made.
The mother of two had planned a vacation Majorca along with their children, husband, his parents and her own father.
Accommodation was booked after agreeing on a location and cost sharing.
However, when a dispute broke out between the husband and his parents, the mother-in-law decided to book separate accommodation and then refused to pay the £750 which was her share of the cost.
The anonymous woman gained weight Online forum Mumsnet seek advice from other parents.
She wrote: “We went to Cornwall for a week over Easter and while we were there DH [dear husband] had a disagreement with his stepfather.
“Nothing to do with vacation but ended up in a very heated discussion and MIL [mother-in-law] get upset.
“Without consulting us, MIL booked separate accommodation for July and said she needed somewhere to go if things started while we were on holiday. She also decided without discussion that what we booked wasn’t big enough.
“When asked she explained that they would not pay their share of the one I had already booked. This will add around £750 to our holiday bill without consultation. I am angry.
“Am I unreasonable to think you can’t just choose not to go on a prearranged holiday without paying your share? If I had already gotten her share, she would not have booked new accommodation! What do I do now?”
Miscellaneous MumsNet forum Users rushed to respond to the question, and one asked, “That’s very naughty and testy, can you change?”
Another said: “I think I would try to cancel the accommodation if possible and get cheaper elsewhere and not go on holiday with them again. If you do this I would get the money upfront before I book anything.”
Someone else said: “I would be furious and actually don’t want to go with them given their very childish behavior.”
Not everyone was on their side – one person said: “I can understand your MIL’s point if there is a tense atmosphere in the family now.”
Another person added, “On the other hand, if your DH/FIL is in the form to get on and cause drama, I can understand why she wouldn’t want to stay in the same house.”
It’s not the first time a family has been separated over the holiday – one man was beaten up afterwards his sister said she always paid for his vacations.
And a woman shared a video of him kicking sand on a man sitting too close to her on the beach – but not everyone agreed that she was right.
