However, The Last of Us is set for HBO while Twisted Metal is set for Peacock.
But God of War won’t be Amazon’s only video game adaptation. Amazon Studios is currently developing a Fallout TV series from the creators of Westworld starring Walton Goggins, and a Mass Effect TV series is also set for Prime Video.
God of War has long been a PlayStation exclusive, but it’s more likely the series will try to capitalize on the popularity of the series’ most recent release from Sony Santa Monica Studios. The film stars Kratos, an old Spartan who waged war against the Greek gods. After the epilogue of the original trilogy, Kratos begins a new life in Scandinavia, where he encounters a new group of Norse gods and the troubles that come with them.
God of War was critically acclaimed upon launch and is one of the most successful series reboots in recent memory. A sequel to God of War: Ragnarok will be released later this year for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The sequel will continue the Nordic Saga, and appear to end the story of Kratos and his son Atreus ta.
Meanwhile, Amazon is a perfect fit for major genre movie adaptations and is currently preparing one of its biggest ever, a new series based on the works of JRR Tolkein titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
