The greatest screen engines of all time have been revealed – from Del Boy’s van to Bond’s Aston Martin

THE Van in Only Fools and Horses was voted the world’s best screen vehicle.
Del Boy and Rodney’s dingy yellow three-wheeler Reliant beat a number of popular television and film engines.

One of the yellow tricycles from the popular TV series sold for £38,000 at auction in 2021.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the 1968 classic and the time-travelling DeLorean from the 1985 film Back to the Future took second place.
James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, which first appeared in 1964’s Goldfinger, finished fourth.
KITT, the talking car from the 1980’s and 90’s TV series Knight Rider, finished fifth.


Herbie, the Volkswagen Beetle from the 1977 film Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, finished sixth.
Even The Inbetweeners’ rickety Fiat Cinquecento made the top ten.
Aidan Rushby of car financing app Carmoola, which conducted the survey, said: “Cars on screen have stolen our hearts as much as the characters.”
