The High Evolution is Dr Herbert Wyndham, a geneticist who specializes in creating human/animal hybrids commonly known as “The New Man”. He first appeared as an enemy of “Thor” in “The Mighty Thor” #134-135, a two-part story by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby where the God of Thunder is confronted with creation. Man-Monster” of Evolution.
High Evolution and his creations are often based on Mount Wundagore, hence why Newcomers are often referred to as the “Knights of Wundagore.” In “Avengers #186”, (co-written by David Michelinie, Mark Gruenwald and Steven Grant, art by John Byrne), it is revealed that a young woman named Magda, running from her old life, comes to live hide in Wundagore and give birth to twins; The midwife was Bova Aryshire, a new breeder of cows. Those twins grew up as Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. However, given how Wundagore fell in “Madness’s Multiverse” and how Scarlet Witch was dropped from the Guardians of the MCU, “Episode 3” probably won’t make use of this connection.
Outside of the comics, High Evolution doesn’t appear much. A very different version of the villain appeared in “Spider-Man: Unlimited”, where he and the Newcomers (hereinafter referred to as “Beastials”) rule an alternate world known as “Counter Earth.” A more comically accurate High Evolution appeared in the cartoons “Hulk: Agents of SMASH” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy.”
As you can tell, High Evolution is one of those villains that never quite fits into a single hero’s gallery. However, there are a few good reasons why it would be the Guardians he is threatening in the MCU.
