HE was the fearsome member of the Brat Pack in the 1980s – but today, he’s barely recognizable after 36 years.
Andrew McCarthy, now 59, is best known for playing teenage roles in the upcoming hit classics Pretty in Pink and St Elmo’s Fire.
Notably, at the age of 23, he played the heartthrob Blane McDonough in John Hughes’ 1986 classic Pretty In Pink alongside Molly Ringwald.
When fame exploded after the film’s release, McCarthy recalled ABC7: “Honestly, the first thing that happened was I suddenly became very attractive to young women in places I’d never been before.”
McCarthy’s memoir, Brat: An ’80s Story, was released in May and raises the lid on his experience of sudden stardom.
In it, he explains how his growing popularity, his writing style is not suitable for public life and Hollywood.
He is also known for his roles in St Elmo’s Fire, Weekend At Bernie’s and Less Than Zero.

In the years that followed, he became a director and used his experience as an actor to understand what it was like to be in front of the camera.
He has directed several television shows including Orange Is The New Black.
And although he looks different from the 1980s Brat Pack himself, he still looks young despite being 59 years old.
He has three children – one with his first wife Carol Schneider and two with his second wife Dolores Rice.
Sam, like his father, is also an actor.
Sam’s mother is Carol Schneider.
