One member of the Shelley and Grange family dominates the school register at St Paul’s in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, let alone the previous generations who have already attended
An elementary school can truly call itself a family affair as it has a child from the same clan in each of its seven years.
Not to mention the older children, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents who were all there before.
At the moment, a member of the Shelley and Grange family dominates the school register at St Paul’s in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.
And there are occasions when all seven show up at once when they are with childminder Lisa Shelley, who also went to school!
Proud Shirley Shelley said: “Here is Lily Shelley who turned 11 on March 17th. Then Lilly Grange, my daughter’s children, Elise Shelley, Stanley Shelley, Frankie Grange, Bobby Shelley and Rose Shelley.
“Three of her parents – Lisa, Bryn and Lee Shelley – went to St. Paul’s, her grandfather went too and her father Don, who is 89 years old, went too!
“In addition to those who are there now, there is Charlie and Oscar, who are 17 and 15 years old and went there. My daughter has Evie who is 16 and has been to St Paul’s.
“Anytime someone has to decide what school a kid goes to, they go to St. Paul’s. It’s remarkable.
“I asked the kids, and they all know they’re cousins, mostly because they look alike.
“So I spoke to the principal and pastor, Emma Handley, who loves that they were all baptized at her church. She says, ‘The Shelleys are here!’
“On Tuesdays and Thursdays they all come to school together because they are with my daughter-in-law Lisa, who is a childminder and has the same name as my daughter, and she takes them there.
“School is a really important part of family life, also because of its connection to the church, and right now this is the last year that all the children will be of different years.
“But if the school is still open, I think future generations will go there too…it’s a beautiful church school.”
