The iPhone addresses one of its biggest problems – but some fans are furious

APPLE has brought back one of the iPhone’s most popular features – and some fans aren’t happy about it.

According to reports, the latest version of the iOS operating system finally shows the battery percentage in the status bar.

For years, the indicator appeared in the bar at the top of the iPhone’s display, which also shows the time, signal strength, and more.

However, Apple ditched it in 2017 with the iPhone X, which introduced the Californian company’s “Notch” screen design.

The layout sacrificed part of the status bar to make room for cameras and sensors and has been featured on every flagship iPhone since.

To see the exact percentage of battery remaining, newer model owners had to open a separate menu by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

It’s been a point of contention among Apple fans for years, and it seems the company is finally addressing the issue.

Corresponding MacRumorsthe battery percentage display will make a triumphant return with the release of iOS 16.

This is the next major update for the iPhone software, scheduled to be released next month.

Apple has already released a public beta of the software, and techies are sifting through it to find new features.

With the fifth beta of iOS 16, Apple updated the battery icon to show the specific battery percentage.

Currently, iPhones with a notch only show an inaccurate visual representation of the battery level.

Images of the feature shared on social media show a number appearing above this indicator to show the percentage remaining.

That means users can see exactly how much power they have left at a glance, without having to open the Control Center menu.

The new indicator is available for the iPhone 12 and 13 series, with the exception of the 5.4-inch ‌iPhone 12‌/13 mini, MacRumours reports.

It is also available on the iPhone X and the “iPhone” XS.

While many fans have welcomed the change, some have an ax to grind with Apple.

After news of the update surfaced on Reddit, users flocked to Apple to limit it to specific models.

One Redditor whined, “What the heck? Why can’t the 12/13 Mini and XR get it too?”

Another said: “Gotta be damned for kidding me. – Signed an XR user.”

However, many people were happy with the update, and one Redditor described it as “unironically the best iOS 16 feature.”

Apple presented iOS 16 at its Worldwide Developer Conference 2022 in June and announced that it would release the update in the fall.

In addition to the new battery indicator, the new software will introduce lock screen customization and the ability to edit or delete messages.

The update is rumored to be released alongside a new batch of iPhones next month.
