The last major independent Russian news agency shuts down – POLITICO

The last major independent media outlet operating in Russia suspended its reporting on Monday following a warning from the state communications regulator, marking another blow to freedom of expression in the country.

The editors of the Novaya Gazeta announced that the newspaper had received its second warning from Roskomnadzor for failing to clearly identify an organization in an article as “foreign agents” in the Kremlin’s sense of the term, and was therefore “suspended”.[ing] the publication of the newspaper online, on social media and in print until the end of the ‘special operation on the territory of Ukraine’.” Novaya Gazeta receive his first warning for the same reason on March 22, with editors arguing it now risks having its media license revoked.
