THE TV adaptation of The Last of Us is coming to HBO Max in 2023, and the studio has given fans a first look at some of the scenes.

Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) will take on the role of Joel, a surrogate father to Bella Ramsey’s (Game of Thrones) Ellie.

The pair previously starred together on the HBO hit series Game of Thrones and have proven successful when starring together.

Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreations) joins the cast as Joel’s friend Bill.

Filming has already wrapped up for the first season, which will consist of ten episodes, with plot points taken directly from the game.

After losing her parents in a post-apocalyptic world, Ellie teams up with father figure Joel to survive her harsh environment.

There are only two lines of dialogue in the trailer, but we get a good look at some of the show’s environments.

From the footage, Ellie says, “Everyone I’ve ever loved or cared for has died or left me.”

To which Joel replies, “You have no idea what loss is.”

The show was written by Chernobyl resident Craig Mazin along with Neil Druckman who wrote and directed the game.

Pedro Pascal was reportedly wanted by several television networks to work on projects following the conclusion of The Mandalorian season 2.

He apparently chose the role after watching his nephew play it and was particularly impressed with the character of Joel.

The show aims to stay as close to the game’s plot as possible, even to the point of instructing Ramsey to play 14-year-old Ellie as a lesbian.

There is no release date yet other than that it is coming in 2023. However, with filming ending this June, it might be sooner rather than later.

The wording in the trailer gives the impression that HBO plans to release all episodes of the series on the same day.

However, with such a short trailer, we might have to wait a little longer to find out more.
