FANS have noticed that promotional material for the upcoming Legend of Zelda reveals that the game will include online features.
Tears of the Kingdom is the highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
We know it has been in development for a while and is scheduled for release on May 12, 2023.
However, the online functionality has not been officially announced before and is unusual for Zelda games.
A photo of promotional material for the game posted online on Reddit showed the Nintendo Switch Online icon.
This shows that there will be additional features for those who have subscribed to the online service.
However, it does not explain what the online functionality for the game will be like.
The most likely feature is cloud saving, where players can upload their saved data to the cloud.
This is common across most Nintendo games, and it’s very likely coming to Tears of the Kingdom.
The other feature could be DLC that will be released after May next year.
Two DLC packs were created for Breath of the Wild, released a few months after the original game.
These were sold separately. Since then, however, Nintendo has been offering members their more expensive online pass, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass, DLC as part of the subscription.
This started with the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, which doubles the number of tracks available in the game.
Players can still purchase this DLC separately or play for free if they are a subscriber.
It seems unlikely that the online functionality will include multiplayer as the promotional material states that the game is single player.
If there was multiplayer functionality, it would likely be shown or announced prior to the game’s release.
