The love of art is not what led Cary to become an actor

In her early years, Cary Grant wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life. Talk to Interview magazine in 1986, shortly before the actor’s death, he talked about his dream of a professional life:

“I don’t have a certain ambition. One has to go through an education before forming thoughts about what one wants to do. Unless you have some crazy ideas about being a firefighter. or a boxer or a football player. But I don’t have those.”

What he knows he loves is travel, as he grew up in the port town of Bristol watching ships go to everyone-knows-where. This led him to think that maybe becoming a sailor would be his ticket to travel, but what ultimately provided that avenue of discovery was the gig business. But it didn’t work. It is part of a traveling acrobatic troupe:

“I have no ambition to act… Because of my desire to travel, I joined a small troupe of ground acrobats. The first time I went to New York with the crew. When the crew returned England, I’m still here. I like this country a lot, and gradually I’ve been involved in musicals.”

Grant eventually had a very successful time both on Broadway and touring the country in musical comedies such as “The Street Singer” and “Nikki.” His rave reviews for the latter drew Hollywood attention, and after a successful screen test with Paramount and a name change from Archie Leach to Cary Grant, he became an actor. doing the right thing in movies, working his way from supporting roles to almighty movie star in just a few short years. He found his calling and became a legend in the process.
