A voice recorder with “terrifying, graphic and repetitive” content was found in Terence Glover’s car after he met and killed eight-year-old Harley Watson

A paranoid schizophrenic who drove his car onto a sidewalk and into a group of school children, killing a 12-year-old boy, recorded himself saying, “I am an animal, I am a monster and I will be yours killing children,” an inquest was heard.

The recording, found on a Dictaphone in Terence Glover’s car after he punched and killed Harley Watson in 2019, contained “horrifying, graphic and repetitive” content, Harley’s family’s attorney said at a hearing today (Monday). at Chelmsford.

Once transcribed, the chilling recording was 107 pages long.

Glover had also said in previous 999 calls to police “he might run over some school kids,” said Lincoln Brookes, Essex’s chief medical examiner.

The coroner said Harley was with friends when he was hit by a car that pulled onto the pavement outside Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex, after 3pm on December 2, 2019.

Harley was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:43 p.m. that same afternoon.

Glover admitted to manslaughter by diminished responsibility of Harley Watson at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

He also admitted the attempted murders of an adult and nine children, who were also injured in the attack.

He was sentenced to indefinite imprisonment under the Mental Health Act last year at the age of 52.

Mr Brookes said: “I felt there was good reason for an investigation because concerns were raised not just about what happened on December 2, how it actually happened, but how it came about in the first place.

“Whether they are state and government weapons, whether their involvement in any way, either by action or their error or omission in any way, caused or contributed to the death.

“The family have raised concerns about his contact with the police, for example.

“You will hear that he has indeed been in contact with the police for quite some time, not just this year.

He said Glover said he “felt being followed by neighbors, their children or others” and made 999 calls to police, some of them “abusive”.

“It seems he was so serious that if they didn’t act he could do something serious, in particular he mentioned several times that he could run over some school children,” Mr Brookes said.

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby of Essex Police said it was “determined fairly quickly” that Glover’s attack was “a premeditated act by speaking to witnesses at the scene”.

Glover was arrested hours later in his car in a pub car park several miles away following a police appeal.

A voice recorder was found in his car when he was arrested.

Jesse Nicholls, representing Harley’s mother Jo Fricker, said a transcript of Glover’s footage on the device ran to 107 pages and one said, “I’m an animal, I’m a monster, and I’m going to kill your children.”

In a statement read by the attorney, Ms Fricker said, “I miss my boy beyond words and I would give my life for Harley to have his.”

The inquest, which will be heard by a jury and is scheduled to last seven days, is continuing.
